Over the past 15 years, I have been very intentional about integrating my understanding of children, development and the role of caregivers, in order to help children thrive. Children have an innate drive to grow and master their environment. It is the role of professionals (and caregivers) in a child's life to remove impediments and to nurture the unfolding of this natural growth process.
Herein, I partner with caregivers as we collaboratively problem solve (while both nurturing the adult-child attachment and leveraging the power of this connection) in service of helpful outcomes.
Play-based interventions is often used as I seek and implement creative, out-of-the-box alternatives to support development. So often we too easily accept children's challenges as inevitable or static, whereas brain research as well as my own experience, testifies to the very real possibility for meaningful change. Through exposure to "just right challenges", opportunity to master acquired skills, and with professional guidance, significant development is indeed possible!
I view children in a holistic framework - acknowledging all the facets of being human - social, emotional, cognition, physical and sensory individualities, each in their own context. This leads me to value each child as a complete, unique person and to tailor my treatment as such. I believe each child is not just ready to develop in a certain area, such as motor or praxis skills, but they are ready to GROW into becoming their own person. They are filled with potentials to be realized. We should be ready to guide and support them.
I also value my own professional development, keeping myself abreast of empirically validated approaches, so as to offer my clients the most up to date therapy approaches that are supported by research.
